Our Philosophy
We believe in an intimate connection between the built environment and the natural world. This can be achieved foremost by having respect for the natural attributes of a site. Orientation with respect to the sun allows natural lighting and passive solar opportunities to be captured, while being mindful of the topography minimizes site disturbance and effectively blends a structure with its surroundings. The occupants of a home must have the ability to feel a connection with the exterior world – this connection varies and can be as simple as a shaft of natural light from a high window. More obviously, the use of outdoor living spaces thoughtfully connected to the home blurs the line between inside and out. |
We strive for sustainability on a number of levels. We support a healthy local economy by buying timbers cut at local sawmills from trees harvested by salvage loggers or from our local community forest (Wells Gray Community Forest). Standing dead trees are utilized whenever possible to capture the value of these trees before they deteriorate, and because they result in a more dimensionally stable timber. Sustainability at a larger scale is promoted by encouraging smaller homes, and the use of resilient materials and energy efficient technologies wherever possible.

We celebrate the natural, living quality of wood, and take pride in using its inherent strength and beauty to enhance the living spaces of our clients. Each project is crafted with care, and we strive for continuous improvement and refinement of our processes. We find satisfaction in creating beautiful, efficient and functional spaces where timber elements enrich the surroundings.
